Homecoming Gift Baskets

For many years, American youth have been celebrating in late September or early October a home-advantage football game, complete with rallies, parades, dances, the crowning of the Homecoming King and Queen, and lots of themed Homecoming Party Supplies. Because of this, Homecoming party supplies are pretty straightforward finds on the Internet. But coming up with a theme is a little bit more challenging. Try pitching a 50's sock hop idea to your Homecoming Committee. It's not such a popular idea that it's been done before over and over, and everyone on the invitation list will automatically know of a 'perfect' costume or persona to take on for the event.Encourage all party guests to come in costume, since many events throughout the evening will be dependent on acting a certain part. Old varsity jackets borrowed from parents are excellent finds, as are poodle skirts in the school colors. For decoration ideas, find of 45's and hang them from the ceiling. Put up posters from Happy Days or the Outsiders. Rent jukeboxes and a '57 Chevy (or paint a mural of one), so that party guests can have their Homecoming picture taken in it. For food, create a penny candy section (although now it's probably more like a 5, or 10 cent candy section). Offer 50's diner food, like hot dogs, a basket of fries and fully loaded sundaes. Make floats with two straws (for sharing) and decorate the tables with my 45's and 50's TV paraphernalia. Give out bobby socks in your school colors as party favors, along with the pictures from the '57 Chevy. Hire a DJ to play appropriate music from the 50's, and maybe even offer dance lessons.
